There was a time when
you didn't have to be rich to fly to America. It was during that time that Soe
Soe (SuSu) took a plane to Gotham. There she met Brooklyn Jeanne (pronounce Jeanie)
and they became friends – real friends.
One day, Jeanne told
Soe Soe that she wanted to go backpacking in Europe.
And that’s when Soe
Soe told Jeanie to start from Antwerp, the city where buskers do not want to go
another mile (buskers’ graveyard you know).
And so, Jeanie came
to Antwerp and fell in love with the city and with the people and with the free
spirit of its inhabitants.
Even after Soe Soe
had died in April 2013 (43 years old), Jeanie still came to Antwerp twice a
year. Every time she was here, she visited us (SuSu’s parents) and all the
friends she made over the years, especially people who make street art.
All this led to her selection
to paint a wall (Walls of Boho) in the Schoenstraat (Borgerhout/Antwerpen).
She painted the text
“The show must go on” in her own designed letters and in the colors that both
she and Soe Soe preferred.
